Episode 15 False vs. wrong
Hello folks,
This week I’m talking about false vs. wrong. This tends to be tricky for German native speakers as the German word falsch can be translated into English as both wrong and false. First, I define both words with the help of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary and the Oxford English Dictionary to establish where the overlap in meaning is and then I use the Corpus of Contemporary American English to back up my native speaker gut-feeling on why false or wrong is the better collocation depending on the error I’m correcting. I wrap up this episode with a list of common collocations with both of these words. Are there errors your students/pupils make particularly frequently with either of these words?
